Weekend Adventures
If you watch my facebook page you’ve probably already seen a glimpse of my adventures from this Labor Day weekend. On the weekends – and long weekends especially – I try to fit in some sort of art-related outing.
Friday night I took part in the First Friday Art Walk in Owego, NY. Historic Owego hosts an event the first Friday of each month centered around the arts. Different businesses stay open late and offer displays, food, and live music. It’s a lot of fun to walk around downtown, meet other art-minded people, and take in the atmosphere. I ate dinner at Carol’s Coffee & Art Bar (very cool place with an art themed menu and ambiance) and listened to the band at Original’s at the end of the night before winning a prize for the event!
I also like to take a walk along the river anytime I’m in the area.
Saturday there were more adventures to be had. The day started off by attending the Palettes of Keuka event in Hammondsport, NY. Approximately 50 artists paint on large wooden palettes earlier in the year which are on display in various places along Keuka Lake throughout the summer. Saturday all the palettes were brought together to be viewed and auctioned off live in the square. This is the first time I’ve attended this event and it was really interesting to see which pieces were popular and listen to the comments of the audience.
Next I grabbed lunch from a local deli and walked down towards the shore to enjoy a lakeside picnic lunch. Even though the weather was chillier this day, it still was sunny and absolutely gorgeous.
The next adventure of the day was to Dansville, NY for the Festival of Balloons. Unfortunately due to the possibility of stormy weather, the balloon launch did not happen that night. I was kind of disappointed after the long drive, but maybe next year I will catch the Balloon Rally in Binghamton instead earlier in the summer.
Sunday was a lazy day for me and then Monday I spent the afternoon with my two favorite munchkins playing with bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and going for walks.
Although I’m not ready for fall quite yet, it appears that September has arrived and the summer is coming to a close. Some events coming up in the next couple of weeks to keep your eye on:
- For anyone still wanting to see the exhibit at Gallery 116, this week will be the last week of the show (ending Sept 8th).
- Community Arts of Elmira is taking suggestions for a mural that will be placed in downtown Elmira until Sept 8.
- Sept 7 at 5pm there will be an opening reception for Animal Kingdom (Up Close) and exhibit by Ron and Kyle Reynolds at Community Arts of Elmira.
